England Under-21s manager Lee Carsley is reportedly in a prime position to succeed Gareth Southgate as caretaker manager.
The former Everton midfielder is likely to lead the Three Lions’ side in their next game against Ireland in less than eight weeks’ time.
The FA is expect to replicate the appointment of Southgate in 2016, who was promote from Under-21s manager to the senior national team, having initially been in the role on an interim basis.
FA chiefs have confirmed they are considering a new manager but feel Carsley, 50, is the best man to take charge for England’s next game.
A number of candidates have so far been link with the Three Lions job, including Eddie Howe, Thomas Tuchel, Graham Potter and Jurgen Klopp.
However, it is understand that Tuchel and Klopp are not realistic about the possibility at this time.
Carsley was born in Birmingham UFABET and has been working with England’s youth teams since 2018.
He first started as assistant manager of England Under-21s before taking charge of the Under-20s and then becoming Under-21s manager in 2021.
Carsley led England to a 1-0 win over Spain in last year’s European Under-21 Championship final, winning the tournament at youth level.
